Since 2018, all fireplace manufacturers have been obliged to publish a declaration of performance regarding the capabilities of the fireplace, in accordance with EU legislation. With this, fireplace capabilities have become comparable, making it easier to choose a suitable one.
A heat-storing fireplace can be identified by the amount of heat energy or kilowatt hours (kWh) disclosed by the manufacturer, which can be found in the declaration of performance for the heat-storing fireplace. A stove can instead be identified by heating power (kW). As such, a kilowatt hour (kW) alone says nothing about heat-storing capabilities.

In emissionless burning, handling the gasification of the wood is key. The gasification management in clean Golden Fire burning is based on precise air control, which ensures the exact amount of air required is always available in the different stages of burning.
With the Golden Fire gasification burning method, wood constantly burns at a high temperature of 800–1,200 degrees. This ensures an energy-efficient fireplace and minimises the harmful PAH compounds and soot particles. Wood on a Golden Fire grate is ignited from below to ensure they start burning quickly and burn cleanly and strongly throughout.
Thanks to Golden Fire, NunnaUuni is under the 2022 EcoDesign emissions limit in the heat-storing fireplace test, which is the strictest testing method for fireplaces. The smoke gases are measured for the entire burning period, from igniting the wood onwards, which is not the case for stoves. Stoves are tested using a method in which emissions and benefits are only measured after pre-heating. As such, it is not representative of actual heating.
The emission limits set by the EU are meant to reduce the environmental and climate effects of energy products, and choosing more energy-efficient products is facilitated by making comparisons easier.
The Mammutti soapstone used in NunnaUuni fireplaces is quarried in our own deposit in Nunnanlahti. There are several soapstone types, and only the Mammutti soapstone type is well suited for fireplace fireboxes as well.
Its iron-rich magnesite reacts at high temperatures in a way that makes the fire chamber stone more and more durable with use. This unique feature makes the fire chamber extremely durable and ensures it does not require insulating materials for protection.
