NunnaUuni Golden Fire

NunnaUuni products ensure wood burns cleanly and efficiently, conserving both the environment and wood in the process.

Golden Fire burns wood cleanly

You don’t need much in the way of expertise to notice clean and energy-efficient burning, just have a glance at your chimney. In unclean burning, the chimney belches out dark and odorous smoke, a product of poorly burnt firewood. With the NunnaUuni Golden Fire method, white mist floats towards the sky instead. Thus, your neighbours won’t complain about smoke even in a densely populated area.

Our victory in the innovation awards contest is an excellent demonstration of our eco-friendly product range.

Golden Fire – What is it all about?

Burning wood makes it heat up and gasify, releasing blazing hydrocarbons. Gasification is key to ensuring perfect burning of firewood. Only after that should you worry about adequate combustion air. The Golden Fire gasification burning method and precise air flow control allow wood to burn at a high temperature of up to 1,200 degrees Celsius in NunnaUuni. This is how the fireplace achieves its energy efficiency and minimises harmful soot particles and PAH compounds.

How it works

  1. The combustion air is directed underneath the Golden Fire grate from the room or directly from outside, causing it to preheat.
  2. Only a small amount of the combustion air is directed from the grate holes to serve as primary air underneath the embers and maintain the steady gasification fire from the wood.
  3. Most of the preheated combustion air of Golden Fire is secondary air, which is directed from the edges of the grate to the top of the burning wood and around it. This allows the steadily released gases to burn at the highest possible temperature, up to 1,200 °C.
In the NunnaUuni Golden Fire method, wood is ignited from below. This means the burning begins quickly and the wood immediately burns with a high intensity – cleanly.
Golden Fire working principle

Leaving the fire grate problems behind

There are currently 2.2 million fireplaces in Finland, most of which are fitted with a traditional fire grate. These only direct the combustion air underneath the wood. In the traditional method, the gases already burn with the wood, increasing the wood’s heat build-up and causing overgasification. In the traditional fire grate, the combustion air is no longer sufficient for burning all released gases. This leaves a large amount of hydrocarbons and soot unburnt. This can be easily identified by billowing black smoke from the chimney.
There are many tricks for lighting a fireplace with a traditional fire grate, but none of these solve the overgasification issue. In addition, the smoke ducts and chimney build up soot easier because the flame doesn’t erupt immediately upon lighting. Golden Fire’s controlled – and effective – burning of wood ensures nearly zero-emission burning. White mist from the chimney is a signal of a clean burning fireplace. In addition, Golden Fire ensures a NunnaUuni hearth can be lit quickly. One match may be enough!
